Think Humanity Secondary School
Our Story: The Think Humanity Girls’ Hostel began in February 2012, bringing 30 young women from underdeveloped villages and the Kyangwali Refugee Camp in Uganda to their new home in Hoima, Uganda. The girls came from Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Sudan. These children were victims of war or displacement, and many had been orphaned.
As rent prices continued to soar, Think Humanity decided to move outside of Hoima. Land was purchased and construction of the Think Humanity Secondary School was completed on January 10, 2022, in Nyakambugu Ward, Buhanika.
The students created their own mission, vision, and motto:
Girls’ Mission: To create sustainable educational development opportunities, social entrepreneurship, and leadership skills for girls in the developing world to break the cycle of poverty for individuals and the nation’s development.
Vision: Empower girls with education and basic training skills.
Motto: Patience pays.
Objective: “To empower and educate young women to create a better future for themselves and their communities.”
The Impact of Educating Girls: Think Humanity has impacted hundreds of girls since our girl education program began in 2012. Graduates of the program have gone on to become nurses, teachers, procurement officers, accountants, seamstresses and other professionals. They are now able to provide for themselves and their families and build a brighter future.
Think Humanity is especially proud that some of our graduates have returned to work with us, helping to educate, encourage and support the next generation of girls.
In addition to education, Think Humanity holds an annual Women’s Leadership Summit, started in 2012 to advance female leadership in Uganda. The summit helps young women develop leadership and communication skills through local female speakers, hands-on exercises, and activities focused on problem-solving, active listening, and teamwork, skills that help them become more effective students, citizens, and future leaders.
Why We Invest in Girls’ Education
While progress has been made in girls’ education, too many girls in Uganda still face barriers that prevent them from completing school. Poverty, early pregnancy, forced or early marriage, gender bias and lack of access to sanitary products can all stand in the way of a girl’s education.
We believe every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, discover her abilities, and build a better future. Education gives girls the opportunity to pursue a career, marry later, make informed decisions about family size, and contribute to their communities.
That is why Think Humanity invests in girls’ education, for her future and the future of her family and community.
